For most lifters, the effective target is simple: take 6 to 8 grams of pure L-citrulline about 30 to 60 minutes before training. That range is where most people should start, then adjust based on product format, workout length, and personal tolerance.

If your pre-workout contains pure L-citrulline, look for a clinically meaningful 6-gram serving at minimum. Match the dose to the workout

Consider moving toward 8 grams of pure L-citrulline when the session is longer, the volume is higher, or you are training large muscle groups. Why Your Pump May Still Fall Flat

Citrulline is not a magic powder that overrides poor preparation. If you take 8 grams and still feel flat, look at the rest of the equation before assuming the ingredient failed.

Hydration is the first place to look. Muscles are largely water, and a pump suffers quickly when you walk into training underhydrated. Drink consistently through the day, not just in the five minutes before you lift. If you sweat heavily or train in hot conditions, electrolytes can also help support fluid balance and performance.

Caffeine can add energy and focus, but it is not required for citrulline to do its job.

The key is to avoid stacking ingredients just because they sound intense. Build around doses that are transparent and purposeful. A simple pre-workout setup with 6 to 8 grams of L-citrulline, solid hydration, and a training plan built for progression will outperform a cluttered formula full of underdosed extras.
